Where are you from and where did you grow up?
I was both born and raised here in Birmingham, AL.
What brought you to Birmingham and what do you do here outside of True40?
Following graduation from Auburn University, I came back to Birmingham to take a job as a Girls Minster at a local church. Outside of teaching at True40, I work as a social worker and am currently completing my masters in social work (so ready for May 2018 to get here!). Other than work and school, my husband, Eric and I try to be outside and with our family and friends as much as possible.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
The best advice I've ever received is to repent and believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ. An old hymn writer once wrote, "The bride eyes not her garment but her dear Bridegroom's face, I will not gaze of glory but on the King of Grace." I am so thankful to those who encourage me to look to Jesus.
How do you love your body and stay true to you?
For me, loving my body is paying attention to my body. What I mean by that is sometimes the best thing I can do for my body is to rest and have some dark chocolate and others times that means to push myself harder and fuel my body with the best options. Loving my body means to listen to my body (in a non-weird kind of way ha). The truest I can be to me is to extend the same kindness I would want to extend others in their body to myself too and that can be really hard to do at times.
Why is fitness important to you?
Fitness is so so important because it is an avenue to make me ABLE. Able to love better and serve better. What if fitness was focused more on ability than appearance? Here's to all the strong, not perfect, but strong ladies!
Why would you tell someone to try True40?
I would tell someone to try True40 because, well, the reasons above. True40 promotes loving your body through listening to your body and caring for it well, it provides an opportunity to strengthen your body and help you to become more able to love and serve better. Not to mention the most fun workouts and friends in the studio ever!
What is one item on your bucket list?
To write a book one day.
What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
I am super competitive.
