Where are you from and where did you grow up?
I am from Ozark, Alabama! I grew up in Ozark and went to high school in Dothan, Alabama.
What brought you to Birmingham and what do you do outside of True40?
I went to graduate school in Tuscaloosa and drove to Birmingham almost every weekend because that is where my friends were and my husband, Jay, lived in Auburn so we met in Birmingham a lot! I loved it instantly and did my last two semesters of grad school internships in Birmingham, and one of those internships turned into a job. I work at United Ability (formerly known as United Cerebral Palsy) as a speech pathologist. I work with adults with disabilities and I could not love my job more. It is definitely my dream job!
How do you love your body and stay true to you?
Moderation. I eat as healthy as I can but I also eat what I want in moderation and exercise 3-4 times a week! It might be teaching True40, taking classes, or running/walking outside but I try to stay active throughout the week! I can tell such a difference in my attitude throughout the day if I haven’t done something active.
Why would you tell someone to try True40?
I would say True40 is for everyone! I truly believe no matter where you are in life you can gain from attending True40 classes. The workout is catered to however you are feeling that day and whatever your body needs. There is no competition and the environment is nothing but encouraging and fun!
If you were stuck on a desert island, what 3 things would you bring?
I would bring my husband, Jay, chicken fingers, and coffee and I think I would be just fine.
Why is fitness important to you?
I have struggled in the past with body image and I have finally learned (after many years and a lot of failing) that being healthy is so much more important than being skinny. Fitness is so important to me to keep my body healthy without abusing it. I have also learned that being active is so good for your mind as well as your body.
