Where are you from and where did you grow up?

I was born in Atlanta before our family moved to Birmingham when I was in middle school.

What brought you to Birmingham and what do you do here outside of True40?

I went back to Atlanta for a few years after college before meeting my husband, who brought me back to the Magic City. We live in Avondale and LOVE all the growth happening all around us!

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Dream big dreams, and go after them. Think about what you want or what you feel called to do, identify the barriers that stand in your way, and make a plan to overcome the obstacles and make it happen. Don’t be afraid to fail, and don’t quit if pursuing your dream leads you down an unexpected path. It will always, always be worth it!

How do you love your body and stay true to you?

The best way to stay true to you is to listen to your body and find what works for you. I am stubborn and like to push myself, but with a number of back issues, I finally had to learn to accept I couldn’t do everything I used to. Just because I can’t run or lift heavy weights, doesn’t mean I can’t stay in shape. I just had to find a different workout that I loved and gave me great results (hello, True 40!). My body is so much better off for it now.

Why is fitness important to you?

I've been a group fitness junkie ever since I can remember. Fitness isn't just about physical strength - it does so much good for your mind, soul and body. It makes me feel empowered and gives me a challenge and something to work toward.

Why would you tell someone to try True40?

I don’t even know where to start! Five minutes into the first True40 class I ever took, I knew it was where I was meant to be. I love the different components of class – I never get bored, and I can modify to my needs or challenge my strengths, even with my back problems. I appreciate how True40 classes help me build long, lean muscles while still challenging my cardio endurance. I’ve seen so many changes in my body and the bodies of clients, and it’s so fun to be a part of that. I adore the True40 community – staff and clients – because it is so empowering, strong and welcoming.

If you were stuck on a desert island, what 3 things would you bring?

My husband, my dog and several cases of red wine.

What is one item on your bucket list?

I would love to visit Hillsong Church in Australia.

What is one thing most people don’t know about you?

I had a knee surgery gone wrong in high school, and couldn't walk for almost two years. It wasn't a sure thing that I would ever walk normally again, but I got to see God move in ways I couldn't imagine. I'm obviously not only walking now, but am working in the health field! Praise hands! :)
