Summer Challenge Healthy Recipes: Summertime Smoothies

Smoothies are a simple, tasty way to nourish yourself with the nutrients your body needs. So this week for our #SummerChallenge, we have a variety of smoothies that are quick, healthy and a perfect way to cool down on a hot summer day. 

 

ANTI-INFLAMMATORY SMOOTHIES

The anti-inflammatory smoothies are perfect to help reduce soreness and recover after a class in the studio.

Coconut Cherry

  • Combine in blender:

    • 2 cups frozen pitted cherries

    • 1 cup coconut water

    • 1 tablespoon lime juice

Spicy Papaya

  • Combine in blender:

    • 1 ½ cups chopped papaya

    • 1 cup ice

    • 2 tablespoons honey

    • 1 teaspoon chia seeds (soaked in 1 cup cold water 10 minutes)

    • ¼ teaspoon turmeric

    • 1 teaspoon grated peeled fresh ginger

    • Pinch of cayenne pepper

Green Goodness Juice

  • Combine in blender:

    • 1 cup chopped spinach

    • 1 stemmed and chopped large kale leaf

    • 1 cored and chopped apple

    • ½ cup water or coconut water

    • ¼ cup fresh blueberries

    • ½ chopped lemon

    • ½ inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and chopped

Blackberry Plum

  • Combine in blender:

    • 1 ½ cups frozen blackberries

    • 1 cup orange juice

    • 1 pitted and chopped black plum

Spinach Apple Juice

  • Combine in a juicer:

    • 2 cups baby spinach

    • 2 cored and chopped sweet apples

    • 1 chopped cucumber

    • ½ chopped lemon

Blueberry Green Tea

  • Combine

    • 1 ½ cups green tea, frozen in an ice-cube tray

    • ½ cup chilled green tea

    • ½ cup fresh blueberries

    • 1 tablespoon honey

 

DETOXIFYING SMOOTHIES

Detoxifying smoothies will help cleanse and flush out the toxins our body comes into contact with on a daily basis.

Apple, cucumber, and lemon juice

  • Combine in a juicer:

    • 2 cored and chopped tart apples

    • 1 chopped english cucumber

    • ½ chopped lemon

    • Pinch of cayenne pepper

Strawberry, Grapefruit and Ginger Smoothie

  • Combine in blender:

    • 2 cups hulled strawberries

    • 1 peeled, seeded, and chopped grapefruit

    • 1 cored and chopped sweet apple

    • 1 cup water

    • 1 inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and chopped

Ultra-Green Juice

  • Combine in juicer:

    • 1 stemmed and chopped bunch kale

    • 1 chopped fennel bulb

    • 1 cored and chopped granny smith apple

    • ¼ chopped honeydew

    • 1 celery stalk

    • 1 inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and chopped

Beet, Apple and Mint Juice

  • Combine in a juicer:

    • 5 chopped carrots

    • 1 chopped small beet

    • 1 cored and chopped sweet apple

    • ¼ cup mint leaves

Grapefruit, Carrot and Ginger Juice

  • Combine in a juicer:

    • 2 peeled, seeded, and chopped grapefruits

    • 5 chopped carrots

    • 1 inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and chopped

Green Machine Smoothie

  • Combine in a blender:

    • 6 chopped romaine leaves

    • 4 stemmed and chopped kale leaves

    • 1 ½ cups water

    • ½ cup chopped pineapple

    • ½ cup parsley leaves

    • ½ cup chopped mango

    • 1-inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and chopped
