“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess,
for He who promised is faithful.”
As believers, we are called to make disciple of all nations. For some that means traveling to other countries and sharing the good news of the Gospel. For others that means financially supporting others who are traveling. And for others that simply means supporting through prayer. All of these are important and we believe in this call to action. That is why this week we are highlighting one of our own, Kate Hardman, who just left for East Asia for a whole year!
We want you to hear directly from Kate, so please read her letter below!
I am thrilled to tell you how the Lord has been working in my life over the past few years. In May I graduated from the Auburn University School of Nursing. I have seen the Lord move in incredible ways over my past four years at Auburn and nursing school was a huge part of that. The Lord was faithful as He provided me with the opportunity to go through nursing school, fall in love with the profession, people, and the call it has brought to my life. While getting my degree, I had the opportunity to be a part of many different organizations and mission trips. One of these organizations was Campus Crusades for Christ, also called Cru. Through Cru, international mission trips, and my involvement in Auburn Community Church my love for the Lord and His people has grown exponentially.
When I began nursing school, I felt the Lord reveal to me the idea of taking a year in ministry before beginning my career as a nurse. Over the past six months, the Lord called me to a totally different plan than I could have ever imagined. Last November, I was approached with an offer to spend a year ministering to college women in East Asia through Cru. After months of prayer and considering all my options I had no doubt the Lord was calling me to spend this next year in East Asia!
The city I will call home has a population of nearly 14 million people- a little over twice the size of New York City. Of the 14 million, only 2-4% have heard the Gospel. A majority of these students I will spend time with have never heard the name Jesus. They have a void in their lives that only Jesus Christ can fill. These college students have little to no freedom, meaning their college major, religion, life plan, etc. are chosen for them by the government. Regardless of their situation or circumstance I want to provide these students with a new identity of freedom and hope so that they may find themselves as the daughter of the King. The Lord has broken my heart for the lives these young women are living and I am so excited to spend a year forming relationships and doing life with them as the Lord calls me.
The heart and passion of Cru is to target potential leaders. College life in East Asia, just like here in the US, is a critical time in a young adult’s life. It’s the first time they are away from home and have the chance to question their core beliefs or non-beliefs. Beginning in August, I will join a team of Auburn students, live close to the college campus, and begin Mandarin language classes at the university. Following Cru’s mission, we will begin forming relationships with students on our campus and sharing the Gospel with them. We do this in hopes that they will continue to take the Gospel to their families, nation, and into the world as leaders for Christ.
To continue our mission in East Asia, I am seeking Ministry Partners who will join me in furthering the Kingdom of God. I am in need of financial supporters and people committed to fervent prayer for my team and me during this time. My monthly need is $3,100, which covers living expenses, housing expenses, and tuition. Would you be willing to join me in supporting my ministry? Your contributions are tax deductible and will be processed on my behalf through Campus Crusades for Christ. If after praying you feel led to support in this ministry, please complete the detachment and return in the self-addressed envelope. All checks should be made payable to Campus Crusades for Christ.
You can also give online at www.give.cru.org. My account number is 0937375. You can also visit www.give.cru.org/0937375 to access my page directly. If you have questions, please call me! I would love to meet with you personally, talk with you over the phone, or even meet with small groups to further explain what I will be doing. I must have 100% of my support committed by August 1st. As your partner, I will be sending monthly update letters and would love to be in prayer for you as well.
I am most humbled and honored to ask you to partner with in the Great Commission. Thank you so much for your time reading this letter and for your prayerful consideration! Praying over you as this letter reaches you!
Kathryn (Kate) Hardman
Thank you for taking the time to read that letter! If you would like to join Kate financially, click the links above to give! If you would like to support her by prayer, here is a list of the things to be praying of her and her team:
Pray for the students my team and I will be meeting. That the Lord will provide an abundance of students. That communication will come easy. That they will see their need for a Savior, believe undeniable, and have boldness to profess their faith.
Pray for my actions and words. That the Spirit would be constantly moving through me, that each moment is utilized to bring students closer to Christ, and that the Lord gives me strength and understanding.
Pray the Lord would raise up future leaders in East Asia. That the students we share with will take the good news to their families, friends and nation for Christ.
Pray the Lord would shield us from spiritual warfare and quickly remind us of His goodness and sovereignty when the days are tough and discouraging.
We are so excited for all that the Lord is going to do through Kate and we love supporting her in this new adventure!
